The early mobile units
When coffee first started becoming popular just five or six years ago, of course there were no Starbucks or other chains, just local entrepreneurs who saw an opportunity. To get started many of them would convert carts used for selling other things to mobile coffee stands and pull them around with a motorcycle and park them for the day in a promising location.
The mobile units are giving way to other models now but they are still quite common. These pictures show some of the mobile coffee stands on their way to their assigned spots in the morning.
The very first mobile stands were really rough, just old motorcycles repainted, with a cart attached—or maybe just an old tuk-tuk with one of the seats removed. They ended up in locations on the streets that were sometimes profitable and sometimes not.
