Where have all the sidewalks gone…

Traffic is unbelievably bad in Phnom Penh and getting worse by the day. The number of cars increases by the day and there is no place for them off the street. Part of the problem is that EVERYTHING is done in the street–kids playing, restaurants serving food, food cart vendors, loading and unloading… And there are no sidewalks so the pedestrians are in the street also. Here is a half block stretch of street outside of a primary school with all sorts of vendors side-by-side, taking up the full space between the road and the school wall.

First, a gas station and repair shop.
A seller of some cold drinks.
Selling sugar cane juice to drink.
Selling some sort of snack.
Selling another kind of snack.
And there’s the vendor selling oranges (which are green in Cambodia).
