I had to go near the waterfront again today and ran into more preparations for the Water Festival starting later this week.
A large archway straddles Norodom Blvd near the Independence Monument, proclaiming Water Festival 2017.On the other side of the monument, heavily armed troops are on the street. The government is paranoid and needs to control any gathering of more than two people.The water intake station on the riverfront has two lions guarding it, and they got a new coat of paint for the festival.Every year the trees on the major streets leading to the river are adorned with fairy lights and I always wondered how they put them up. Now I know. They might learn not to do it during rush hour.
