For most of a decade we have contacted a Vietnamese village on the Mekong River for palm for our Holy Week services. This year we had an offer from St. Joseph Church to get the palm through them, but later it turned out they were getting it from our old supplier. Wherever it comes from, the early arrivals for the Palm Sunday liturgy have a weaving field day with all sorts of palm creations.
Some of the palm we ordered was used for decorating the two churches where the English Catholic community meets on the weekends.
On Sunday morning we invited the congregation to gather at the back of the hall we use for the blessing of the palm. It would be preferable to have the blessing outside and have a real procession, but we have an awkward staircase leading up to our second-floor hall.
