Hua Hin 2019 / January 14

Today was another meeting day, but for each of the Maryknoll charisms–the priests and brothers, the sisters, and the lay people–to meet in their separate groups.

The Maryknoll Lay Missioners met in the large meeting room all morning.
The brothers and priests met in a small meeting room
at the back of the retreat house campus.
The priest presider for the liturgy today–our last together–was Fr. Joe Fedora, the Latin America superior. He was invited to attend the Asia meeting to see how we do things here.
For two of our members, this was the last time they would participate in these Hua Hin gatherings. Sr. Helene O’Sullivan (L) spoke words of farewell to Sr. Len Montiel who is returning for service at the sisters’ center at Maryknoll, New York.
Sr. Julia Shideler is leaving East Timor to return to the United States for further studies.
After the mass we had to return the chapel to its original configuration which involved moving all the pews back into rows.
Then after lunch the first of our group started departing. Here Ted Miles says goodbye to Hang Tran who was returning by taxi to Bangkok and then to Cambodia.
Every year I try to get down to the nearby beach at least once and I walked over this afternoon after the meetings were finished. This is looking south along the Gulf of Thailand. The hill in the distance is about three miles walk along the beach.
Looking north there are more people in that area nearer the city center of Hua Hin.
