Hong Kong 2017 — Thursday

Today was the first day of the three-day Water Festival holiday (actually five days because Monday is added because the third day is a Saturday), but I didn’t get to see any of the boat racing action.  Instead I worked at home till lunch time and then took a motorcycle taxi to the airport for a trip to Hong Kong to celebrate the fortieth anniversary of the Hong Kong Catholic deaf group I used to work with.

Toward the airport, away from the river, the only sign of the Water Festival was an array of Cambodian flags outside a police station.
The cheapest flight I could find was Vietnam Airlines so I changed planes in Ho Chi Minh City.
From the airport I took the airport bus to Tai Po in the New Territories where Keat Sokly met me and took me to his small room where we talked till 1:30 AM.
