Coffee: Franchises

Once coffee became common in Cambodia and the little players with the coffee carts and stands became established, it wasn’t long before the larger businesses followed.

Costa and Gloria Jean’s were two of the earliest franchises that opened outlets in Phnom Penh.
The biggest companies that set up here were Brown Coffee and Cafe Amazon. Brown Coffee has quite a few outlets and they are tastefully done and frequented by many. For sheer number of stores, Cafe Amazon probably takes the prize. Starbucks is now present in Phnom Penh, too, and has a presence, because of their reputation, that exceeds their limited number of outlets.
As the more established franchises opened stores, they created an environment for local entrepreneurs to test the market, too. Chao Doi seems to have Vietnamese connections and Coffee Plus has connected themselves to the larger gas stations.
