Post-Lockdown Day 4

When the lockdown ended three days ago, I was able to get back to one of the markets I use (along with many other foreigners). It has a more western approach, with many canned and packaged goods that Cambodians wouldn’t use.

The large open wet and dry markets that the Cambodian people frequent have mostly been shut down because of the large numbers of Covid-19 infections found in the markets. Most Cambodians go to the market every day to buy fresh meat and fish, fruit and vegetables, so the closure presented a real problem of food supply. Enterprising people, anxious to earn a few dollars, opened up vegetable stalls in the entrances of their homes.

Others, not having a house or shop open to the street, just appropriated the side of the road, selling from wherever there was traffic and they could find a space.
