Because of the increasing number of COVID-19 infections in Phnom Penh, and because clusters of infections were found in the large government markets, most of the markets have been closed. And then reopened. And then some of them closed again. To provide meat and vegetables and fruits for people who depend on the markets every day, temporary market stalls were set up on streets and corners and sidewalks around the city. Now many of the markets are reopened but the temporary vendors are still on the streets. Maybe they will become a permanent part of the post-pandemic street culture?
