The Lunar New Year is February 12th this year. In the United States, it is commonly known as Chinese New Year but actually all the chopsticks countries celebrate this lunar festival. And Cambodia, not a chopsticks country, does, too! Cambodia has its own new year in April but there are so many of Chinese descent in Cambodia that the country takes an unofficial three- or four-day holiday.
The new year is still 12 days away but the signs of its approach are becoming evident, first of all in some tentative decorations in shops selling other things and in the lanterns starting to be hung by hotels and other businesses.
