Christmas in Cambodia 2006

Christmas Drama at Salesian Sisters' Girls School

22 December 2006

Mother and child

The girls at the Salesian Sisters school who had the Christmas Bazaar last weekend also had a drama this evening. Kathy Morefield, a Maryknoll Affiliate from Seattle who works here in Cambodia with her husband John, adapted Charles Dickens' Christmas drama into "A Khmer Christmas Story." It was very well done.

A Christmas disco dance
A disco dance wasn't directly connected with the Christmas theme but it allowed more girls to participate in the show and show their skills.
Acting out the Christmas story
After the dance, there was an enactment of the Christmas story from the gospels. Joseph was the only male in the whole production.
A dance in the drama
In "A Khmer Christmas Carol," one scene was Christmas dance in a Cambodian village
A choral interlude
A small choir provided musical interludes which gave the cast time to change sets and costumes
A scene from the drama
Two announcers kept the audience in touch with the story line. Presenting the drama in English was quite a feat for these girls.
The cast with Kathy Morefield
Kathy has done a lot of work at the school over several years. She put together "A Khmer Christmas Carol" as an English class project.
