Christmas in Cambodia 2006

Christmas Decorating at Maryknoll Sisters'

17 December 2006

Mother and child

The Maryknoll Sisters have a tradition in Cambodia of decorating their Christmas tree and house a week before Christmas, an event to which they invite all the Maryknoll family. It's one of the first (and only!) events of the Christmas season here, a lot of good conversation with some simple food and always some wonderful dessert.

Decorating the tree
Ed McGovern, Mary Little, Bernadette Duggan, and Regina Pellicore get started on the evening's work
Some decorate, some talk
Luise Ahrens, Jim Noonan, and Kevin Conroy enjoy a conversation while they supervise the others' work
Decorating cookies
While the grown-ups start the tree decorations, some neighborhood children decorate Christmas cookies in the kitchen
More conversation
Jim Noonan, Kevin Conroy, Kathy Morefield, Bill Burns, and John Morefield
More conversations
Ayan Matutina, Bill Burns, and Bernadette Duggan
Time to eat
Finally it was time to eat! Supper was chicken salad sandwiches.
