Board of Directors Meeting

Today was the main day of the Maryknoll Lay Missioners Board of Directors meeting.

For the first activity of the morning, all the board members and members of the Bethany staff gathered in the chapel for a liturgy together.

Once the meeting started, the first order of business was a report from leadership. Margo Cambier (center) spoke while Rhonda Paver, Kathy Bond, Tom Healey, and Bill Vos listened.

During the morning break, Mark Wittenberg, Dave Cappellari, and Frank Johnson checked out some information on an iPad.

Often the board goes over to the Society's center to eat lunch with the priests and brothers, but this year they stayed at Bethany and had lunch with the Bethany staff, a good opportunity for the board to meet those who keep the day-to-day operations going.

At lunch each of the board members and staff introduced themselves. Here Mike Noonan (right) introduces himself. He also received a gift for more than two years of really dedicated work to bring about a transfer of property for the new Maryknoll Lay Missioners headquarters building.

Marj Humphrey is a former lay missioner who worked in Africa. Now she is on the board. Next week she will receive a major award from Gonzaga University for her work with Maryknoll Lay Missioners in the medical field and today she was recognized with a gift of flowers offered by Bill Vos in the name of the board.

The board currently has fourteen really dedicated members genuinely committed to the organization and to mission.

Kathy Bond, a lay missioner now working in Brazil, and Sara Welch, a business woman from Westchester County, are the two new members of the board. This was their first face-to-face meeting with the board.

In the evening the board had supper together at Bethany. The Maryknoll Lay Missioners is still recovering from the financial crisis of 2008 and we try to control and limit costs by such things as having catered meals at our center.
