Four of the seven MMAF members in Cambodia took a trip to the province of Kampong Cham in July, 2000. The trip was part of the orientation of the new Maryknollers to Cambodia and an opportunity to see how the church operates in the rural provinces.

This second page shows some of the houses in a small Christian village along the Mekong River

Boarding the outboard motor boat on the Mekong
Saturday morning we missed the large river ferry so we rented a small speedboat to take us an hour up the Mekong River

After an hour's ride up the Mekong, our boat nosed into the muddy bank and we walked through the thick trees to the muddy track that is the village road. All these houses are rough-cut lumber with split bamboo floors and thatched roofs. There is no electricity or running water and I never saw an outhouse except at the church. Pigs and chickens and dogs live under the houses except during the floods when they live inside with the family. This trip gave us a good experience of the annual rainy season!
