Preparing for a confeence
The conferences each day are held in a large semi-open hall on the grounds of the Catholic Center. Here one of the priests prepares some water for the retreat leader for the conferences during the day. It is quite warm at this time of the year although it is a couple degrees less warm here on the coast than in Phnom Penh.
Demonstrating a prayer position
Fr. Vidalis comes from a strong tradition of Indian spirituality and practice. A theme for this retreat is "Yoga spirituality" in which he is showing the need for balance between the Western rational approach to theology and the Eastern experiential approach to spirituality. He uses ideas from yoga to illustrate the latter.
Preparing for mass
On the different days, a group of priests from one of the dioceses or special groups prepares the liturgy which is celebrated at 11:00 AM. Here the group from Battambang diocese in the north prepares to lead the liturgy.
The Sihanoukville harbor
The Catholic center is located on a hillside on the edge of Sihanoukville, overlooking the harbor, the only port for the country. Development is rapidly encroaching on the church center which used to be somewhat isolated.
After a conference
After each conference, it is a five- or six-minute walk back to the main buildings of the center and it gives the priests a chance to talk and catch up.
