Memorial Day Weekend

Memorial Day weekend saw a repeat of the tornadoes of last Thursday. People in the Louisville area spent a few hours in basements and secure areas of buildings as tornado warning sirens went off, and because of that I didn't get to my sister's house to use her phone line to update the website, so this page will cover both Saturday and Sunday.

Sunday (30 May)
  • I was the priest presider at the 11:00 AM liturgy this morning at St. Aloysius Church. In the homily for this Pentecost Sunday, talking about the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives and our world, I noted that the US "presence" would be more appreciated if we had spent $130 billion over the past decades supporting women's education and other good causes. My point was that we could have done that because we came up with that amount in one year for the Iraq war. Some people heard that as an anti-war statement and three people walked out.
  • In the afternoon I went to Sacred Heart Village to visit Mom and got caught there when tornado warnings sounded and all the residents and visitors were gathered in a safe area for three hours. Then this evening at 11:30 PM, the tornado warnings sounded in Pewee Valley as another unsteady weather system descended on the area.

Monday (31 May) Memorial Day
  • Birthday party at Paul and Hope's new houseAnn opening a gift

Ann's birthday was last Friday but part of the family waited until today to celebrate it with her.  This afternoon we gathered at Paul and Hope's new house.  They have moved in although their furniture is still in Wisconsin so it was convenient that we could sit outside around the pool since there were no chairs inside the house!  All the children loved the pool!
