One of the first activities of the DDP deaf education consultant Kerstin Olsson and sign language interpreter Åsa Helmersson was to meet with various people knowledgeable about deaf education in Cambodia to learn its history, the way it has developed, who has been involved, etc.

Meeting with Kong Vichetra at DAC

 

 

One of the first interviews to be held was with Kong Vichetra of the Disability Action Council. Chetra is responsible for DAC's Inclusive Education program.

 

 

Meeting with Neang Phalla of Krousar Thmey

 

 

Ms. Neang Phalla is the director of education for all the different programs of Krousar Thmey which serves children throughout Cambodia in a variety of ways.

 

 

Meeting with Véronique Monard of Krousar Thmey

 

Ms. Véronique Monard is the director of Krousar Thmey's new deaf education effort, a pre-school for very young deaf children which will open with the beginning of the new school year in October--as soon as the flood waters leave the school.

 

 

Meeting with Regina Pellicore of Maryknoll

 

Sr. Regina Pellicore is both the country representative of Maryknoll in Cambodia (Maryknoll's liaison with the government) and the director of the Health and Education Project in Boeung Tum Pun on the outskirts of Phnom Penh.
