Street Kids at the Celebration

Street kid eating a lunch box found in the trash

Phnom Penh has lots of street children (and several NGOs serving them), and many kids live near and in the park where the International Day celebration was held.  They wander through the exhibits, always on the lookout for something to eat or sell.  Here a young boy eats the remnants of a lunch box of rice that he found in the trash.

Dave Jones giving away food

The Disability Action Council, the organizers of the day's activities, had more lunch boxes than it needed for its staff.  Dave Jones of DAC tried to give away the extra food to the needy--and hungry--kids and was immediately mobbed.

Making money with scales

These young girls are probably not street kids, although they might be. Instead they may be poor girls, not in school, trying to make a living by weighing people with the bathroom scales they carry around with them.  They probably have to rent the scales from someone so I doubt they really make any money.  But at least they are trying.
