The Snapshots pages are just photos that I thought might be interesting to give a feel for the parts of Cambodian life we encountered on this trip to a rural province. This page gives a few more glimpses of the school we visited. |
One of the most common and most ubiquitous of toys in Cambodia is the string of rubber bands. Boys and girls, especially girls, spend hours jumping back and forth over their version of the high jump. Hitting the rubber bands doesn't matter. It's the jumping that counts and delights the kids. |
Curious kids gather around a visitor to their playground. Everything new and different in this very small town, rural culture can be the occasion for curiosity and gawking. Nothing much has changed in some of their villages since the Middle Ages except that their clothes now have zippers. |
Charlie became a focus of attention when he wandered around the playground during their recess. The kids laughed at the funny way he spoke Khmer--even worse than a first grader!--and were fascinated to see themselves in a digital camera display. |
An old bicycle rests against the old wall of the school building, waiting to take two deaf sisters to their home at the end of the day. The bicycle was probably new about the time the school building was put up. |
