Today was the first full day of retreat, with two conferences with Father Louis. |

Morning prayer and evening prayer are held in the parish church. Here Bishop Anthony (kneeling on the right) gives instructions before beginning morning prayer. His diocese of Kampong Cham was responsible for the prayers and liturgy today. |

|
|
Morning prayer is at 7:00 AM and immediately following there is breakfast. Then, on this year's schedule, the first conference talk is held at 8:45 AM. Here the fellows leave the church and head for breakfast. |

Fr. Louis is well known for his workshops and teaching on spirituality for priests. It turns out that he and Bishop Anthony and Father Dos all attended St. Peter's Seminary in Bangalore, about five or ten years apart. |

This is the building used for larger gatherings. The retreat center has a smaller room that is used alternatively for a sleeping dorm, with several dozen youth sleeping on mats on the floor, or as a meeting room for 25-30 people. For a group the size of ours, we moved to this hall on the other side of the church. |

The diocese of Kampong Cham was responsible for planning and leading morning and evening prayer and for the liturgy. Here the priests of the diocese gather around the altar at the beginning of mass. |

As an innovative touch, the gospel story--the story of the Samaritan woman at the well--was proclaimed in three parts with one of the center staff taking the role of the Samaritan woman. |

Normally each group that comes to the center must wash its own dishes but the policy is relaxed a bit when the priests come and some extra help is hired for the cooking and clean up. The priests still clear the tables and bring all the dirty dishes to this outdoor sink where they are washed. And where one of the parish dogs waits for his share. |

In the afternoon session, Father Louis asked the three active and two retired bishops of Cambodia to come forward and give a blessing to the assembled group. |

|
At evening prayer, Bishop Anthony lit the candles as his group prepared to lead the service. |
