Church Date in Illinois

Aurora--Annunciation Church

Annunciation Church

Pastor: Rev. Mario Pedi, OSB
  • Friday (8 July) Louisville to Chicago

This morning I rented a car from Dollar Car Rental at the airport. My brother-in-law David Browne (who visited me in Hong Kong three weeks ago) drove me to the airport on his way to work. I arrived before the rental time so I read a little before activitating the contract so that I would have more time to return the car on Monday morning, because they start counting 24-hour periods at the time of rental.

Then I drove to Sacred Heart Village to visit Mom for a few minutes and then I went back to my sister's house to load the car.

I don't drive fast and it took about 6:15 hours to get to the Maryknoll house in Chicago. I was earlier than I had anticipated and was just in time for supper.

  • Saturday (9 July)

Today I drove from Chicago to Aurora, Illinois where Annunciation is one of nine parishes in Illinois' second largest city. Fr. Mario Pedi gave me a gracious welcome and told me of some of the church's past and present.  At 5:15 PM there was the first mass of the weekend. Fr. Mario presided and I preached about mission with deaf people in Cambodia.

  • Sunday (10 July)

The rectory at Annunciation parishThere were four masses in the parish this morning, at 7:30, 8:45, 10:00, and 11:30. The people at all the masses gave me a warm welcome and attentive ear. Then after a sandwich I headed back to Chicago, about an hour and fifteen minutes away. The traffic early in the afternoon on both Saturday and Sunday was surprising because of the heavy volume.
