  • Friday (30 July) O'Neill, Nebraska to Lincoln, Nebraska

I left my cousin's house north of O'Neill, Nebraska early this morning and drove the 200 miles to Lincoln on another beautiful day through beautiful countryside. Taking time to stop to take pictures occasionally, I arrived in Lincoln after about 4 1/4 hours and went directly to Sacred Heart Church and emptied the car of all my suitcases and boxes. Then I went to the airport and dropped off the National rental car. The rest of the afternoon and evening I used for catch-up work on the computer.

  • Saturday (31 July)

The parish has morning and evening prayer for parishioners in the church every day, but I passed on the morning prayer today and got started on the final draft of my homily for this weekend. I had been making notes through the week, and now I organized my thoughts and then set up a display in the back of church of different materials I brought from Cambodia.

Fr. Jerry Pokorsky had the 5:00 PM mass and I concelebrated and spoke to the congregation about Maryknoll and mission work in Cambodia.

  • Sunday (1 August)

There were three parish masses this morning, at 7:30, 9:00, and 11:00 AM, and I was the celebrant for the first and third. Fr. Pokorsky had the 9:00 AM liturgy. At each of the masses I spoke about mission and asked the people for their awareness, their prayers, their participation as lay missionaries, and their financial support. I was able to meet a lot of good people after the masses. There is a large Vietnamese Catholic group in the parish, and many of them came to the 11:00 mass.

After lunch, I walked to a nearby Walgreen's and bought some packing tape for sending some leftover Maryknoll brochures back to Maryknoll so that they can be used again in the future.
