Meeting Day 1

Maryknoll is made up of four separate groups under the Maryknoll umbrella: the priests and brothers, the sisters, the lay people, and the affiliates (people who do short-term mission work with us). In addition there are the partners of Maryknoll, members of other groups who work with Maryknoll in various relationships.  All these "sending groups" were at the retreat, and today and the next day the groups met separately to talk about issues specific to their structure and activities.
Morning prayer with movement

East Timor was responsible for morning prayer today, and the sisters there used a form of tai chi with meditation as an alternative to our usual prayers in chapel.

Sue Moore's birthday

Sue Moore (foreground, red shirt) is the new president of the Maryknoll Sisters, and today she celebrated her birthday with the whole retreat group.  She is in Asia to visit the sisters here and become more aware of their mission situations.

Fish for lunch

No one complains about the food served to us at the Salesian Retreat Center.  The food itself is delicious and the staff are always so nice and accommodating.

The Doerner girls and Thaibinh girls

The Doerner girls (Sarah on the left and Rosemary on the right) were toddlers when they arrived in Thailand with their parents eleven or twelve years ago.  Now they are teenagers and we have a second generation of mission kids, Michaela Thaibinh (center left) and her older sister Katrina.  They also have an older brother Andrew.  The Thaibinhs arrived in Thailand less than two weeks ago.

Small group meeting of lay missioners

Each of the sending groups had many issues to cover in their respective meetings.  Here the Thailand section of the lay missioners discuss in a small group.

Giving a report to the large group

Here Kathy Tucker (standing) and Lisa Pirie report on the discussion of the Cambodia lay missioners small group.
