Speaking at St. Francis de Sales

19 October was Mission Sunday, celebrated by the Catholic Church in every diocese worldwide, and for the occasion I drove from Maryknoll, NY to Purcellville, Va to St. Francis de Sales parish to speak at all the masses. They had helped me with the deaf work in Cambodia with a donation earlier in the year, and this was an opportunity for me to say thanks in person and also to speak about mission.
Charlie with cousins and the Purcellville pastor

Saturday, 18 October

After the Saturday evening mass, the pastor of St. Francis de Sales parish, Fr. Pat Posey, and Charlie were invited to the home of Charlie's cousins, David and Jami Dittmeier for dinner with another couple, Don and Kathy Voor. Jami and Dave live in a house renovated and furnished in a style appropriate for the turn of the 20th century.

St. Francis church has six masses on the weekend, one on Saturday evening, four on Sunday morning, and one on Sunday evening.  After each of the masses I would talk to people in the lobby of the chuch where I had displayed books and posters and other articles brought from Cambodia.

Sunday, 19 October

On Sunday afternoon, Dave and Jami showed Charlie around the Purcellville area.  The tour included a trip to the Trappist monastery at Berryville, Virginia where Jami works with the monk there who runs the monastery bookstore.
