Traveling in Cambodia may not be expensive but it's also not comfortable and not very safe. I traveled to Svay Rieng in a taxi. Normally a taxi here between cities will have four people in the back seat (not counting children) and four in the front. There will be two people in the passenger's bucket seat and two in the driver's bucket seat. The second person with the driver is between him and the door! That ride costs about $2.50 per person. Being a wimp, and also wanting to work on the way, I paid $5.00 for the whole front passenger seat to myself. The people riding in this minivan would pay about $1.00 each, maybe less on top.
