Deaf Education Consultant
in Banteay Meanchey Province

18-22 October 2004

The Deaf Development Program decided to evaluate its teaching program (basic literacy and sign language) as it nears the end of its first batch of students to go through the two-year program. A deaf consultant was hired from Sweden, a woman who is herself a teacher in a deaf school in Stockholm. After interviewing many people and observing classes in Phnom Penh and in Kampot Province, Kerstin Olsson and Åsa Helmersson, Kerstin's interpreter, are going to Banteay Meanchey Province from Monday, 18 October to Friday, 22 October. There they will observe the teachers and students in the DDP classroom and get a better feel and understanding of the rural area of Cambodia, outside of Phnom Penh.
