There are more than 400 boats entered in the competition and each races twice a day in elimination heats.  Most have team shirts and caps like this team watching the competitors after their own race.
Boat crew eating lunch The people and the villages sponsoring a boat are quite poor.  They sleep with their boat at night or on the streets, and like this crew, eat lunch together, homemade food prepared by some wives who accompany them to the big city.
Boat crew taking a break This crew has a long wait before their next race and heads out to explore Phnom Penh.
Family meal on the sidewalk There is really nothing you are supposed to DO during the Water Festival unless you're part of a boat crew.  It's just a place to be, to be part of the crowd, looking at all the people and the hawkers, and then sitting down and eating on the sidewalk when the kids are hungry.
Avoiding the sun In the late afternoon, the sun is still quite warm so this group takes advantage of the shadow of the large bush on the right and sits in a row protected from the dying rays of the sun.
Girl and Boy Scouts Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts were much in evidence in various sectors of the crowd.  This group was marching along the river front with signs encouraging good order among the crowd.
