First Rain of the Year in Cambodia
9 March 2007

This morning, before dawn, I was riding across Phnom Penh on the back of a motorcycle taxi to have mass for the Salesian Sisters in Tuol Kok when I felt something on my arms. It turned out it was rain, totally unexpected! In the dark, the clouds were not visible, but it was the first rain of 2007. Here are some pictures of people on the streets in the light rain--that got heavier later--after the mass.

The rainy season doesn't start until May but starting now we will have some occasional rains like today which the locals sometimes call "the mango rains" because the mangoes are just now starting to come in.
