Maryknoll Asia South Meetings

12 January 2014

In years past, the meetings of the Maryknoll Asia South group lasted several days, but now we have a different format and just one day of meetings. We focus on the direction of Maryknoll mission in Southeast Asia and the dynamics and spirit that help us to collaborate and support each other in mission.

Small group reflection
The first activity of the day was morning prayer combined with a reflection on the ideas of the retreat of the last four days, focusing on how we apply those ideas to ourselves and our work. We spent most of the time in small groups.

Joe Thaler reported about the Maryknoll Society, Julia Shideler about the Maryknoll Sisters, Meden Tan about the Philippines Catholic Lay Mission, and Charlie Dittmeier about the Maryknoll Lay Missioners.

The MASmeetiing
After the morning reflection, most of the afternoon session was devoted to setting the schedule for the next two years, choosing a retreat leader for 2015, and discussing the concept of collaboration among the various Maryknoll entities.
Small group meeting
Part of the collaboration discussion entailed more small group work.
Sr. Ann Hayden singing
At the morning liturgy, Sr. Ann Hayden sang the psalm response which was emphasized in a special way to fit the reflections of the homily.
Sami Scott, Jim Kofski, Dorothy McGowan
Maryknoll Asia South has a Service Team to guide it and keep ideas and momentum moving during the time we are apart. Sami Scott, Jim Kofski, and Dorothy McGowan finished their two-year terms with this meeting and a new team was selected.
Thanking the center staff
At the end of our time at the Salesian Retreat Center, the staff always cooks a special meal for us and we offer them some gifts in appreciation of their dedicated work. Serge Auguste was in charge of conveying our thanks this year.
A talent show skit
A traditional part of our yearly gathering is a talent show that is rather informal but a lot of fun. This was the opening skit which got things rolling and the people laughing.
A song with Dee Dungy and James Havey
James Havey is a talented musical person and sang a dramatic song from a musical, with Dee Dungy as the object of his attention and the song.
