Retreat Day No. 310 January 2014
|
Again the morning schedule had morning, prayer, two retreat conferences, and then liturgy before lunch. After lunch, Bill Galvin showed the DVD Trailblazers in Habits about the Maryknoll Sisters. It is quite well done. |
At morning prayer, Meden Tan sings one of the hymns. Meden is a member of the Philippines Catholic Lay Mission which is part of Maryknoll Cambodia.
In the first session of the day, James Havey and Julia Shideler took the parts of two characters in the Deep River book to help Nonie make a point.
Nonie has an energetic and engaging presentation style that keeps everyone attentive.
At the morning liturgy, Gerry Lee, the director of the Maryknoll Office of Global Concerns, was one of the ministers of communion.
There are very few complaints about the food at the Salesian Retreat Center! The food is good and there is plenty of it with a variety of choices.
One of the special events of this week was the showing of the movie Trailblazers in Habits about the Maryknoll Sisters. It is really well done. Nicholas Kristoff, the New York Times columnist, is one of the commentators in the film.
Yesterday and today, Nonie offered a time for the retreatants to gather informally to discuss the book and her presentations about it. The characters in the book are intriguing and provoke a lot of thought.
Srs. Mary Little (L) and Louise Elling took a walk to the beach. The Gulf of Thailand is just a block away from the front of the retreat center campus.
At night the retreat center staff switch on the lights on a statue of St. Joseph who oversees the evening activities.
Another animated dinner table conversation. |
