The first day of the meeting was held entirely within the hotel except for dinner together in the Friends International Restaurant. On the second and third days we were free for dinner and people went to various restaurants and food stalls in the area.
In the afternoon of the first day, Nicole presented ideas about story telling. Telling the story of the work we do is an important part of the mission, helping others to understand and perhaps to be involved. |
This was not just a talking workshop. There were many activities which engaged the participants and many opportunities to respond to the presentations. |
Part of the telling of the story is using photographs to support what is being said and in the afternoon Nicole presented different techniques for making good photographs of the partners' work. |
Another skill related to story telling is interviewing. Nicole presented tips on interviewing others and then the group divided into pairs to practice their technique using the video feature on their phones to tape each other. |
At the end of the first day we ate together but on the second day we were free after the last session and i started walking toward the Mekong River, looking for a money changer. The sun was setting and at this wat I passed some young monks who were closing the gate for the evening. |
I ate a quick sandwich at a shop near the river, and then walked through much of the Night Market along the riverfront. It is quite extensive with all sorts of wares, especially silk textiles and garments and jewelry. |
