Travel Day

Today was a normal Phnom Penh work day until lunch time. I had a morning mass with Mother Teresa's sisters and then went to the Deaf Development Programme office and tended to some final arrangements before I left in the evening.

Although I had two pieces of luggage, I was still able to take a motorcycle taxi to the airport this evening. To promote its culture and history, Cambodia has many copies of ancient Cambodian statues spread throughout the terminal.

I checked in quickly and then went to the departure lounge for Bangkok Airways passengers. Bangkok Airways is different in that they make this lounge available to all their passengers. It's downstairs, though, and most passengers are not aware they can use it. Coffee, tea, orange juice, and a variety of snacks are on offer on the counter below the clock on the left behind the room divider.

The flight to Bangkok from Phnom Penh is only about 50 minutes. Once landed, I walk from our arrival gate in the west concourse across to the transfer desk in the east concourse to sleep near the departure gates. I usually arrive about 10:00 PM in the evening but don't depart the next morning until about 6:00 AM.

The photo above shows a man coming from the west concourse, the area where our flight from Phnom Penh landed. This photo shows the same man now heading east toward the departure area. This is one long corridor, nearly 3/4 of a mile long, so the moving walkways are helpful, especially for people with mobility difficulties. At the eastern end I slept overnight on some padded chairs in the B concourse.
