Trip from Phnom Penh to Bangkok |

I planned for the latest flight out of Phnom Penh to Bangkok so that I could work at the Deaf Development Programme during the day. When I finally headed to the airport, it was dinner time in Phnom Penh.

I enjoy eating at these vendors on the street outside the airport but last time I was here, they were gone and I figured the police had run them off, so tonight I didn't look on the street but ate a hot dog at Dairy Queen inside the terminal. Walking outside afterwards, though, I found that the vendors were back. Next time!

The Phnom Penh airport has free baggage carts--like most international airports and unlike the United States--and many other amenities of a modern facility. It was far different the first time I was here, a week after the coup, when the airport had been shelled and had temporary columns holding up the roof. Today it is quite nice inside and even has free wifi.

I flew the boldly painted planes of Bangkok Airways on this first leg of my journey. We were almost an hour and a half late leaving Phnom Penh, but it didn't matter because I was going to sleep all night on some padded chairs in the B concourse anyway. It's just a 55-minute flight to Bangkok from Phnom Penh but all the airlines serve a full meal in that time.
