Travel to Bangkok

10 January 2012

The Maryknoll Asia South meetings start officially tomorrow but many of the participants came to Bangkok early to get medical services not available in their mission countries or even just to take a couple days off to see Thailand. Many of the group going to Hua Hin are here but there will be a big surge of arrivals tomorrow morning, people arriving in time to take the bus to the retreat center.

Claudette Laverdierre at airport
I flew from Phnom Penh to Bangkok, and when I was standing in line at passport control, I heard someone call my name and saw Sr. Claudette Laverdiere (white shirt) waving to me. She is coming from the Maryknoll Sisters to give the presentation of their history to our group. After she got her luggage, we took a taxi to the guesthouse where she is staying and then I went on to BNH Hospital for an eye exam.
Lindsay Doucette and Susan Sporl
At the Bangkok Christian Guest House, where Maryknollers have been staying for two decades when they come to Bangkok. Lindsay Doucette and Susan Sporl met up. Both are Maryknoll Lay Missioners from Cambodia but arrived in Bangkok on different days.
Olga preparing materials for Hua Hin
I stayed at the Maryknoll office which has a couple rooms for guests, and while I was working to prepare next Sunday's bulletin for the Catholic community back in Phnom Penh, Olga (a lay missioner here in Thailand) came to the office to finish up some preparation work, getting things ready for the bus trip to Hua Hin tomorrow.
