Board of Directors Meeting

The Board of Directors of the Maryknoll Lay Missioners meets three times a year, once electronically and then face-to-face in June and October.

The October Board of Directors meeting began with a liturgy together with the Bethany staff, the2011 candidates, and the regional coordinators from around the world. Bill Vos, the chair of the board, presided.

Before the candidates left for their own agenda in the morning, Dee Dungy who is going to Cambodia stopped to talk to regional coordinators Jason Obergfell and Larry Parr.

This morning Sr. Georgette Lehmuth, spoke to the board and to the heads of the Finance Department and Advancement Department about a theology and practice of fund raising, pointing out that giving allows people to participate in mission.  Sr. Georgette is the director of the National Catholic Development Foundation.

Then the board moved to their meeting room to hear Joe Regotti explain the present structure and workings of the Mission Services Department which recruits and trains the new lay missioners for overseas service.

At lunch time, all the board members went to the Maryknoll Sisters Center to eat with the sisters.  Eating there is always a most delightful and pleasant experience because the sisters are so welcoming.

In the afternoon, board members Mike Wrob and Dave Cappellari chatted with Margo Cambier who is MKLM's Director of Missions and one half of the leadership team.

After the board meeting ended at 5:00 PM, the MKLM candidates of 2011 introduced themselves to the board and to the leadership of the Maryknoll Sisters who joined us for supper.
