Mission Assembly

Every year the seven regional coordinators and the leadership team meet for a one-day meeting called the Mission Assembly. This is the highest authority in the Maryknoll Lay Missioners. Four members of the board came to participate in the assembly.

We continued our theme of praying about the eight core values of MKLM this morning although we had a mass rather than our usual prayer service.  Mark Wittenberg and Dave Capellari sing the opening song while Dave Kane plays the flute and Cecilia Espinoza the guitar.

Marci Winston, the MKLM administrative assistant, has been busy preparing snacks for breaks and helping to set up for the meals that are catered.

Joanne Miya, Russ Brine, Larry Parr, Sam Stanton, and Joanne Blaney mark their preferences in a discussion about a new person to replace Dave Kane on the Board of Directors.

Two times during this one-day meeting, the group split up into two small groups for discussions of different issues.

Small group discussion
One group met in the back of the meeting room while the other met in the dining room.  There was a really good spirit of discussion in the groups.

Sheila Mathews (middle), a former lay missioner who served in Central America and also in MKLM leadership, visited Bethany today.  Here she and Marj Humphrey listen to Bill Vos, the chair of the Board of Directors, tell one of his stories.
