Trip to United States

20 September to 13 October 2011

3 October 2011 (Monday)

Today the Global Council benefited from the wisdom, experience, and committed Christianity of Marie Dennis, the director of the Maryknoll Office of Global Concerns in Washington, D.C.  She spoke to us all day about global challenges to mission today, offering her input and inviting our responses and reflection.
We have begun each day of the Global Council with a morning prayer prepared by Joanne Miya from Tanzania.  Her prayers have been really excellent.

After twenty-two years with Maryknoll, Marie will be stepping down as director of the Office of Global Concerns at the end of the year. She will be greatly missed. She will continue her work in social justice as co-president of Pax Christi International for which she is the first non-bishop and non-male executive.

Many of the Bethany staff often gather for a late lunch about 1:30 PM each day. They say eating late seems to make the day go more quickly.

In the afternoon session with the Global Council, Marie's input took on a more reflective, almost retreat-like tone.
