Trip to United States

5 June to 7 July 2011

9-10 June 2011
(Thursday-Friday)

Maryknoll Seminary building, Ossining

I had anticipated meeting with various departments of the Maryknoll Lay Missioners organization over the next three weeks, but as I went around the building saying hello to people, we started having conversations and I have basically already effected a great deal of the work I need to do on this trip.

One special concern to be dealt with first was the placement process for assigning the new lay missioners to mission countries.  Fifteen new lay missioners have been accepted into this year's class, and on the night of June 8 (Cambodian time), there was a conference call among the regional coordinators to assign them to one of the MKLM mission countries.  Unfortunately I had to be flying across the Pacific at that time, between Tokyo and chicago, so I missed the process and Sami Scott from Cambodia participated in the placement for me.  Upon arrival at Maryknoll, New York, I needed to check to see if that had gone as planned and if there was any follow-up phone calling to do.  Luckily the assigning of the new members had gone smoothly so I didn't have to do anything from New York.

I also went over to the Seminary Building pictured above to pick up an alb (a vestment for mass) that had been left in Rome when I was there last year for a meeting and had been brought back when the Maryknoller in charge in Rome had returned here to New York for a meeting.  And while I was on that campus, I stopped at the Maryknoll post office and mailed several letters I had carried to the U.S. for people in Cambodia.
