Between the church date in Philadelphia and the Board of Directors meeting which started on Thursday night, my time was supposed to be relatively free. And a lot of it was, but a lot of work also followed me halfway around the world (the dark side of e-mail), and I was quite busy with budgets, funding applications, and communications with the Deaf Development Programme. |

- This morning I said goodbye to the people at the cathedral rectory in Philadelphia and then drove back to Maryknoll, New York. It was a leisurely, pleasant drive, and I was pleased that I was able to make my way through New York City and the backroads of Westchester County to arrive at Maryknoll without any problems. I have driven that route very seldom and wasn't sure exactly where all the roads went.
- After lunch I had a meeting with Margo Cambier, the Director of Mission for the Maryknoll Lay Missioners. We talked especially about the situation in Cambodia and the spirit among the lay missioners there.
- In the evening, Margo and her husband Erik invited me to their home in Ossining for supper. That was delightful, really the first time we had a good opportunity to talk and get to know each other.

Tuesday |
- Most of today was spent in a trip into the City with a boyhood best friend. Click here for more on that.

Wednesday |
- It was actually cool last night, the first time I've used more than a sheet to keep the mosquitoes off for a long time. Delightful!
- In the morning, I washed and dried some clothes and in the afternoon I went into Ossining to buy some groceries. The food prices here are incredible! It must be very difficult for poorer people to eat healthily.
- I worked a lot on e-mail and budgets today. When taking a break, I experimented with listening to NPR on my netbook computer. When I stayed at Bethany, the headquarters building of the Maryknoll Lay Missioners last year, there was a clock radio in the little apartment i used but this time it is gone and I had been bemoaning the lack of newspapers and radio news. I decided to try listening to radio on the Internet and it worked quite well even though the wi-fi signal is low up on the third floor.
