Meeting Day 423 January 2010
|
Today was the last day of our time together and in somewhat of a surprise, we finished our work early. We had anticipated meeting in the afternoon but accomplished enough in the morning that most people could have a free afternoon. Then in the evening we had our traditional talent show. |
Morning prayer was moved to the meeting room this morning for an innovative prayer by Hiep Vu and Tawny Thanh.
There was a lot of discussion this morning about approaches the Maryknoll Asia South should take.
At one point the facilitator called for a quick "buzz" discussion, an informal exchange of ideas to see where the group was.
Andree Bedard, representing the Quebec Foreign Mission Society, came to speak to the MAS assembly. She reported that after working as a partner with Maryknoll for eight years, QFMS was now developing a parallel structure for themselves and they would no longer work directly with Maryknoll.
One of the tasks for today was electing a new Steering Committee which required multiple nominations and ballots to choose three people to guide MAS for the next two years.
After each meal each person takes her dishes to an outside area where they are deposited in large plastic tubs for washing by the center staff.
After the evening meal, always a special supper, the center staff were asked to come out and were recognized and thanked for their work. Everyone noted that the food was exceptionally good this year.
Then it was time for a talent show, on a diminished scale this year since our traditional organizer is now working in Africa. John Beeching and Lisa Pirie MCed the event.
Jack Ccrcoran, an inveterate performer, was willing to grace us with a Korean song.
The show was shorter than usual, and at the end, the younger crowd boogied a bit in the meeting room while some of the older group watched a movie in the TV room. |
