Meeting Day 221 January 2010
|
Today was the second day set aside for meetings and again it was for the "charism" groups, i.e., the priests and brothers, sisters, and lay missioners. The priests group had a training session on child protection. The sisters and lay missioners met only in the afternoon so they could also attend the training. The Philippines lay missioners who are partners of Maryknoll but not official members were free all day but had an informal meeting in the afternoon. |
At mass this morning, Sr. Luise Ahrens (right) celebrated her 50th anniversary as a Maryknoll Sister. Fr. Jim Noonan is also celebrating his 50th anniversary.
Fr. John Moran flew to Hua Hin from Maryknoll, New York to offer what is called the Praesidium training about protecting children from abuse. His course was offered specifically for the priests and brothers, for whom it is required if they want to work in US church programs, but it was opened up also to any sisters and lay missioners who wanted to attend.
Alice Marianito and Doy Castro, Philippine Catholic Lay Missioners working as partners of Maryknoll in Cambodia, enjoyed the morning off.
The Salesian Retreat House is a very pleasant place both inside and outside. It is located on a campus with several thousand students but is set back away from the main bustle of the school.
John Beeching of Thailand and Mary Grenough of Burma packed up the display boards used for photos of Frs. Doug Venne and Bob Baines who died recently.
During a break in their meetings, the Maryknoll Lay Missioners in Asia took a group photo. Two other LMs from Thailand and one from Cambodia were not able to attend this meeting.
Lisa Pirie (left) thanked Hiep Vu (right) for his service as the Cambodia/Vietnam Regional Coordinator. Hiep's wife Tawny Thanh watched.
Although they basically had a free day the members of the Philippines Catholic Lay Mission group who work with Maryknoll had an informal meeting in the afternoon. |
