Trip to United States

21 September to 11 October 2010

1 October (Friday)

The Maryknoll Lay Missioners has a meeting called a Global Council every year. The coordinators of the seven MKLM regions meet with the Director and the Director of Missions at MKLM headquarters in Ossining, New York for a week. Today was the first day of the meetings.

The remnants of Tropical Storm Nicole blew up the East Coast last night and dropped a lot of water on the New York City area.  A lot of that water ended up in the basement of Bethany, the headquarters of the Maryknoll Lay Missioners.  Early this morning, Dorothy Hebrank, Sam Stanton, and Joanne Miya had the mops out. Mopping up the basement
Paul Masson, one of the General Council of the Maryknoll Society (priests and brothers) came to Bethany for an opening liturgy with our group.  Sam Stanton and Joanne Blaney listen as he offers some ideas in a homily. Opening liturgy
Then the real business began.  Each of the regional coordinators gave a report on their regions and then Adrianna Melnyk, the head of the Advancement Department, gave a report on MKLM's financial situation. Afternoon meeting
