The trip going back to Asia became somewhat convoluted just as the trip to the USA had. I left Louisville on Monday and flew to New York City where I stayed at the Maryknoll House for nine hours. On Tuesday morning I flew to Toronto but the flight to Tokyo was delayed so I ended up Wednesday night in Tokyo rather than Bangkok. |

Coming from Louisville to New York City via LaGuardia Airport is always a thrill in clear weather because of the views of the City you can get. Here is New York Harbor and Manhattan Island. |
As we circled to land, I could see Flushing Meadows, the site of the New York World's Fair in the late 1960s, the occasion of my first visit to the City. |
At 3:30 AM on Tuesday morning, I was picked up by a taxi at the Maryknoll House in Manhattan and went back to LaGuardia. |
From LaGuardia I flew to Toronto. The layover stretched to six hours so that I arrived in Tokyo too late to make my connection to Bangkok on Wednesday after flying twelve hours through the night and across the dateline. |
Air Canada put me up in the Garden Hotel Narita in Tokyo when we missed our flight to Bangkok. |
The next morning, while waiting for a shuttle to Narita Airport, I noticed the Hotel Christmas Chapel across the street from my hotel. With its year-round Santa Clauses welcoming visitors, it certainly seemed out of place in a Buddhist country that doesn't celebrate Christmas. |
