Trip to United States

28 June to 30 July 2010

12 July 2010 (Monday)

Today the original plan was to go to the Maryknoll House in New York City in the early afternoon, early enough to walk around a bit and see some of the city which I had not visited for five years.  Meetings intervened, though, so I didn't get down into the City until 6:00 PM.

One of my morning responsibilities was to meet Sam Stanton, the MKLM director, at the railway station in Ossining.  This is the famous Sing Sing Prison which is right next to the railway station, both set on the shore of the Hudson River.

I picked up Sam from the railway station, we had our meeting back at Bethany, and then Sam drove me to the same station and I headed for New York City.

For many years Maryknoll has had a house in Manhattan, a most convenient stopover point for flights at JFK and LaGuardia that arrive late at night or leave early in the morning.

After supper at the Maryknoll House, I walked down to Grand Central Station to get a bus ticket for tomorrow's journey to LaGuardia airport and passed the Empire State Building, now NYC's tallest building again.
