Trip to United States

28 June to 30 July 2010

4 July 2010 (Sunday)

I spoke at all three masses at the Cathedral of St. Andrew in Little Rock today. Their mass schedule is a little unusual in that the masses are so widely separated time-wise, one at 8:30 AM, one at 12:05 noon, and the other at 5:30 PM.

St. Andrew Cathedral parish, the mother church of the diocese of Little Rock, was dedicated in 1881 and is the oldest continually used worship space in Arkansas.  It is a beautiful building, especially inside, where it is not immense but is quite adequate and comfortable for the congregation.

An imposing statue of St. Andrew is situated in front of the church which has many statues, memorial plaques, historical photos, etc., throughout the complex.

One particularly impressive memorial is this set of bronze doors gracing the entrance to the cathedral, in honor of one of the earlier bishops on his anniversary.

After the final mass of the day, a family of the parish invited me to their home for supper and a delightful evening of discussion and conversation.
