Several days before I arrived in Louisville, my aunt Phyllis Dittmeier Lippy died. She was the last of the ten sisters and brothers in my father's family. Because I was going to be in town, I was asked by the family to preside at her funeral. |
Because it was a Saturday and the local parish schedules could not accommodate the funeral, the service was held at the chapel of Bellarmine University in Louisville. |
At the beginning of the service, Ellen English, a niece of Phyllis Lippy, assisted with the incense. |
Many family members took part in the service. Phyllis' grandson Matthew read the first reading from scripture. |
Fr. Charlie Dittmeier preparing the altar for mass as cantor Henry Beavin led a hymn. |
The chapel at Bellarmine was just the right size for the group of family and friends who gathered to celebrate the resurrection of the Lord in Phyllis' life. |

Near the end of the service several family members offered memories and reflections about Phyllis. Here Monica spoke about her mother. |
The last to speak was Bill Lippy, Phyllis' husband. |
After the service family members gathered in the courtyard of the chapel before proceeding to a reception on the Bellarmine campus. |
