Second Day of Retreat11 January 2009
|
Timothy Radcliffe is a very engaging speaker and everyone appreciated opportunities to talk with him. Jean-François and Myriam Frys caught him in the dining room after breakfast.
East Timor was responsible for the morning prayer today. Part of most of our prayers in the gatherings of Maryknoll Asia South is a time for silent reflection or meditation.
The Doerner family has been in mission in Thailand for fifteen years. Their two daughters were infants when Billy and Kathleen first arrived. Now they are finishing their time in Asia to allow the girls to go to school in the United States, but the parents hope to return to mission in a few years.
Timothy Radcliffe continued his reflections on the theology that underlies our celebration of the eucharist. His bookk about this, Why Go to Church? The Drama of the Eucharist, was published last month in Britain.
Timothy Radcliffe was the presider for today's liturgy in which celebrated the feast of the Baptism of the Lord.
Sami Scott transferred to Cambodia from Venezuela with her flute and has become an integral part of the all music used in our gatherings.
The afternoons are quiet periods at the center to allow for reflection. Here one of the sisters walks in a garden with a grotto near the retreat buildings.
Alicia Butkiewicz and Sam Stanton, the leadership for the Maryknoll Lay Missioners, came to Thailand to attend the retreat and meetings and used the week as opportunity to meet with the lay missioners in groups and individually. Here Alicia speaks with Cece Aguilar-Ortiz who is finishing up her contract and returning to the United States.
The evening prayers during the retreat days were planned by Adel O'Regan and featured a graphic representing the mission world that included photographs of all those present this week. The graphic was cut apart to symbolize the fractured world in which we live and work. |
