Chicken Dinner Tradition

20 July 2007

A group of parishioners from St. Margaret Mary church in Louisville have a tradition, going back ten years or so, of an annual chicken dinner cooked by Fr. Bob Ray who previously served in that parish. This year a group of seven couples and Fr. Nick Rice gathered again, but the venue was the Chicken House restaurant at St. Joseph, Indiana, across the river. Fr. Charlie Dittmeier was invited to join them for a fun evening.
All the couples gathered first at the English household for some snacks and a glass of wine.
One 8-month old grandchild made a cameo appearance but was not invited to the chicken dinner.
At the restaurant, Mary Hettinger celebrated with a rubber chicken and a chicken whistle, gifts for this special occasion.
At the end all posed for a group photo, wearing khramas (scarves) that Charlie Dittmeier brought from Cambodia.
