On this Sunday, the Catholic deaf community met for mass at St. Patrick Church in Lok Fu. Fr. Charlie Dittmeier concelebrated with Fr. Moses Ngai, the pastor there. A deaf man is proclaiming the scripture reading with two sign language interpreters nearby. |
After mass there was a business meeting at the church. Judy Wu, a former volunteer with the Catholic deaf group, introduced her son Dominique and husband Henry. They now live in Taiwan. |
Another visitor, Fr. Charlie Dittmeier, then said hello to the group, saying how happy he was to be back among them. |
Then some of the deaf people asked questions of Judy Wu and Fr. Dittmeier about their new life and work in different countries. |
Then the whole group went to the Lok Fu Shopping Center where reservations had been made for the gathering of thirty or so Catholic deaf friends. |

This kind of meal in Hong Kong culture is called "yum cha" which literally means "drink tea." All the different dishes are ordered from carts that are wheeled around by all the tables. |
After the mass and yum cha, the group dispersed with several of the volunteers going with Fr. Dittmeier to a nearby hospital to visit the sick father of one of the deaf group. Then it was time to say goodbye to Betty Tsui, Gertrude Lee, and Peggy Fung in the MTR, the Hong Kong subway. |
