Ascension Church in Louisville, Kentucky was the last parish I spoke in on this promotional trip for Maryknoll. Fr. Gary Padgett is the pastor and he responded enthusiastically when I sent out an e- mail several months ago to ask if any parish would like to have help on this weekend. Gary and his pastoral associate, Rosemary Cavanaugh, arranged for a very pleasant visit to their community.

Front view of Ascension Church Ascension was one of the churches built from a common set of blueprints along with maybe ten other parishes. But six years ago, Ascension took the church and turned around the worship space to make it larger and more useful. Originally this was the front doors of the church but now it is the sanctuary area.

Side view of Ascension Church A new entrance and gathering space was built on what was the side of the church before. The Ascension community is well-organized and trained in all the different ministries.
